The Truly Wicked Hello Kitty Murder

Today's story is one that is very gruesome, and distressing. In May of 1999, a very distressed 14 year old girl walked into a Hong Kong police station, and exclaimed that she is being haunted by the spirit of a woman that she had taken part in the month long torture and murder of.

This girl, whose identity is since been protected, proceeded to tell police that she had been a part of a group of people, all men in their 20's and 30's, that had participated in the torture and murder of a 23 year old woman by the name of Fan Man-Yee. The men were all part of a very notorious and dangerous Chinese mafia, the Triad, who were all very rich, powerful, and scary men that engaged in organized crime. The girl, who was the odd one out of the group, had gotten associated with them, because her boyfriend, a 34 year old man, was a member of the Triad.

Fan Man-Yee, who was 23 year old at the time of her murder, had been working at a night club, where most of the people around her, bosses and clients, were members of the Chinese Triad. Man-Yee, who was abandoned by her parents as a child and had to stay at an orphanage until the age of 16, had always had to work many sketchy jobs, which had greatly contributed to her becoming a drug addict.

On one particular day at the nightclub she worked in, a regular client of hers, Chan Man-Lok, who was also a member of the Triad, had come to the club, and since Man-Yee was his favorite hostess, she had been hosting him that night. While hosting him, she had devised a plan to steal his wallet, in which he had 4,000 Hong Kong dollars in, because she had wanted to buy drugs. Although, it was extremely dangerous for her to attempt stealing from a man like Man-Lok, Man-Yee was desperate, and she managed to follow through with her plan, and successfully snatch his wallet.

Eventually though, Man-Lok had noticed that his wallet was gone, and he immediately knew that it had to have been Fan Man-Yee, because she had been the person to get the closest to him that day. He was furious with her, and he brutally demanded she pay him back the $4,000 plus $10,000 in interest, because she had disrespected him. 

Knowing that he was part of the Triad, Man-Yee had gotten very scared of his threats, and she managed to collect the $4,000, and bring them to him, but he had then asked her for the remaining $10,000, which she hadn't been able to secure at the time. She had then told him that she'd get him the remaining money later on, but he didn't trust that she would, and he suspected that she may run off and never pay him the money.

The next step that Chan Man-Lok decided to take was to enlist the help of his Triad friends, and kidnap Man-Yee. So 34 year old Man-Lok, with the help of his friends, 27 year old Leung Shing-Cho and 21 year old Leung Wai-Lun set out the find Man-Yee on March 17, 1999. When the three men eventually found her, they grabbed her and put her in the back of their vehicle, and they toke her to an old run down Triad apartment. Man-Lok's plan was to make her pay of her debts, by working for him and his friends, but things quickly toke a turn for the much worse.

According to the 14 year old girl, on Man-Yee's first night at the apartment, the three men were alone with her, and they decided to continuously rape and torture her all night. This continued to be how they treated Man-Yee for days, and the 14 year old girl, who would have been 13 at the time, would even join in with them at times. At first they were beating her with just their bear hands, but eventually weapons like metal bars, bats, and even kitchen utensils were brought into the picture. 

Eventually Man-Yee was so badly beaten to the point that she could no longer even be able to work for Man-Lok to pay of her debt, but he didn't care because he now had his own personal punching bag, who he would continuously beat just for fun. Over time, the men started getting even more creative with her torture, and they began doing things like burning plastic and dripping wax on her body, and they would even burn her skin directly, specially the skin on the bottom of her feet, so that she couldn't stand or walk.

For days, Man-Yee was starved and viciously tortured to the point that they would spread kitchen spices and dirt on her wounds, and they were even forcing her to eat her own urine and feces. On April 14, exactly a month after she had been brought to the mens apartment, Fan Man-Yee was found dead on the bathroom floor which they had her locked in at the time. She had been so violently tortured to the point that her body was oozing a thick orange like pus. The group of men were shocked to find her dead, and they had then started trying to come up with a plan to dispose of her body.

The next morning, Man-Lok had declared to the group that he had the best plan out of all of them, and that was to dismember her body and boil all the skin and meat off, so that she could never be identified. Almost immediately after, Man-Lok had gotten to work himself and started dismembering her body using a butchers knife. Afterwards, when they had dismembered Man-Yee's body and boiled all the skin off, the group had decided to stuff her skull in a Hello Kitty doll, and they then sewed it back up so that the doll looked perfectly intact. 

When the police had eventually discovered the remains of her body, the main cause of death could not be identified. So, because the men had given a totally different story than what the young girl had said, they could only be charged with manslaughter since Man-Yee had died under their care. 

The men had told the police that Man-Yee had been working with them as part of the Triad, and that she had been heavily addicted to meth and on this particular day she had overdosed. They claimed that they had only tried to get rid of her body that way, because they had panicked and gotten scared. Ultimately though, they were all charged with a life sentence without the possibility of parol for twenty years. So, as of today the men are actually eligible for parol, and the possibility that they may be able to one day get out is truly terrifying.
